Surrey vs London Junior Team Report

TrevorC writes For the second match in a row, we could only field 10 players. I was concerned that the result was going to be similar to or worse than the previous match against Kent, where we couldn’t make up the 4 frame deficit & ended up losing 20-24. Unfortunately, in that match not all the players performed to their best ability.
But that was not going to be the case against London. We led the first session 7-4. Their tactics were to play their big guns towards the tail but we met their challenge by adopting a different order to our usual. We improved on the 3 frame margin to lead 13-9 at half time. Nerves began to fray when the 3rd session went their way, with us managing to win only 3 frames. And so we trailed 16-17 going into the final session.
But unlike that match against Kent all of our team contributed to pull us through. A nail biting final session saw Steve Chambers win the final frame in superb style. Special mention must go to Jack Smithers, winning all 4 of his frames. In particular, Jack potted 2 of the blacks in excellent style - against 2 of their big guns - Frank Costello & a sweet double against Chris Reilly.
But Man of the Match was grabbed by Josh Jones, a newcomer to the team this season. Josh played really well, unluckily missing out on 1 frame but securing the other 3.
Mike Hope continued his winning ways but lost his 1st frame of the county season - he now only has 15 out of 16!
A warm welcome goes to young Anthony Bolt, a 12 year old addition to the squad, who made his debut.
